Litherland Boys Club will collect from school at 3.00pm. and after any After School Club regardless of what time it finishes. Tweeny Tots cannot collect before 3.15 due to staffing problems and cannot collect from any After school Clubs, but will continue to offer a collection service from 3.15pm. Parent Council are considering the feasibility of offering a school based Pupil Minding service from 3.00pm. This is in its early stages of consideration and discussion but I will keep parents informed of developments with regards to this and any costs involved. _________________________________________________________________ February 24th 2012 Sports Relief Friday March 23rd. School will be holding a sponsored run around the field on Friday March 23rd. Mrs. Swift will be sending out further details and sponsorship forms within the next week or two. We hope this will be a fun day at school with plenty of money raised for charity.
Book Fair There will be a Book Fair in the school hall during the week of March 5-9th. Opening times are 3.15-3.45pm. Do come along and have a look at the books for sale. All books sold help to raise money for the school so this is very worthwhile. Thank you to teaching assistants and parent helpers who run this event throughout the week.
Gardening Club Now that the evenings are staying lighter the Gardening Club will re-open on Thursdays 3.15-4.30 from Thursday March 8th. This club is open to pupils from Years 2, 3 and 4 but is limited to a maximum of 20. Places will be allocated on a first come basis. Many thanks to Mrs. Bostock, Mr Brady, for organising and running this club. _________________________________________________________________ January 13th 2012 Dates for your Diary - Spring Term 2012 Tuesday January 17th – Parent Council Meeting 2.15pm. I did send a letter our regarding this last week and I do hope that parents have been able to arrange some form of child-care. First Holy Communion The Year 4 Holy Communion group will be making their First Holy Communion on Sunday, December 11th at the 10.45pm. service. We would like a small choir to join them on this day to support them and lead the children’s singing. Please do encourage your son/daughter to represent and support the school in this way. Carol Service We are inviting any pupil from Years 3 to 6 to join the choir for the Church Carol Service on Sunday December 18th at 6.00pm. All the pupils in the school have been learning the Christmas songs for this occasion as part of their weekly hymn practice. Please look out for the consent letter due to be sent from school early next week. _________________________________________________________________ September 16th 2011 After School Clubs Almost all the Extra-Curricular Clubs have started this week. I am sorry if your son/ daughter has had to be placed on a waiting list for a club but demand has been very great for some clubs. For your reference the clubs that are operating this half-term are listed on the back of this newsletter. School does everything it can to ensure that after school clubs take place but in times of staff absence it may be necessary to cancel at short notice. There are still places on the Dance Club and this has now been extended to Year 4 so do let school know if you would like your son / daughter to join this club. I would like to thank all staff for giving of their time so generously to run the many clubs in and out of school time. Extra Curricular Clubs TimetableSt. Wilfrid’s School Link Once again, St. Philip’s is benefiting from the close link we have with our neighbouring High School. Year 5 are using the St. Wilfrid labs for Science lessons each week, Year 6 are having gym lessons at the High School; we have a Computer Aided Design Club operating at St. Wilfrid’s and a weekly Spanish and Maths lesson are being delivered by specialist teachers from the school. Morrisons’ Vouchers School is collecting Morrisons’ Vouchers again this year. Last year we exchanged our vouchers for some lovely gardening and PE equipment so keep sending them in. Gardening and Cookery Club News You may have noticed that an “allotment” has been dug on the school field, the plan being to have some raised beds in which to grow vegetables. We hope to make use of the veg. in the cookery club or to sell it to parents. Any funds raised will help sustain both clubs. Interestingly, the cookery club made use of the many tomatoes grown in the green house together with the onions that had also been grown by our young gardeners when they made their tomato soup this week. Well done to you all. _________________________________________________________________ September 9th 2011 Welcome Back The new term has got off to an excellent start and all the children have settled well into their new classes. School routines and class rules have been emphasised this week and each class has been introduced to the specific Christian Value that they will adopt this year. Watch out for the displays and assemblies related to this. Diary of Events 2011-2012 Homework & PE Kit Timetable
After-School Clubs We have a wealth of clubs taking place this year and I hope every child (with the exception of Reception) has been able to access at least one club or has been placed on the waiting list for first offer when the clubs resume after half-term. I would like to thank the staff, parents, friends and outside providers who have agreed to run clubs before and after school and during the lunchtime. Parent Council The Parent Council is a vital part of school life and although it does not have decision making rights it does act as a good vehicle for Parent Voice. Please do consider acting as a representative on this body. So far only parents from Years 1 and 6 have responded. _________________________________________________________________
