Admission Policy The Admission Policy for St. Philip’s CE (controlled) Primary School is set out in the ‘General Information and Arrangements for Admission to Primary Schools’ Handbook available from the Local Education Authority and from the School Office. Briefly, while every effort is made to educate children at the school preferred by their parents, this is not always possible. The school has a maximum intake number of 30 pupils. Where the number of applicants exceeds the number of places the following criteria will be used to allocate places: first - children who have a brother or sister who will still be attending St. Philip's School when the sibling is admitted. second - children who live nearest to St. Philip’s School.
Starting School At the beginning of the school year many children feel anxious about the changes they will face. At St. Philip’s our aim is to make the commencement of the school year a happy time for everyone. To help with this, we provide opportunities for all pupils to meet their teacher and visit their new classroom before the start of the school year. At the start of the school year we believe a staged entry works best. Pupils in Y1-Y6 return eager to see their friends again, some excited others a bit nervous. We have seen that not knowing where to hang their coat or which toilets to use causes some children (even some of their parents) to worry a bit. To ensure people are on hand to help things run smoothly, we concentrate on settling these children first. After just a few days we are ready to welcome the new reception pupils and from their first day they stay for lunch and for the whole day. Their teacher and Teaching Assistant stay with them throughout the day including play time and lunchtime play for the first week or so to ensure that all the children are settled and happy.
