Expressive Arts and Design:
Expressive Arts and Design plays an important role in supporting children’s imagination, creativity and self-expression. Through a wide range of engaging experiences, children are encouraged to explore their ideas, develop their confidence and express themselves creatively in meaningful and enjoyable ways.
Children are provided with regular opportunities to participate in a variety of creative activities, including painting, drawing, model making, music, singing, dance, role play and imaginative play. Access to a wide range of media, materials, tools and textures allows children to experiment, explore and create independently while developing their fine motor skills, communication and creative thinking.
The quality and variety of the experiences children are exposed to are essential in developing their artistic awareness, vocabulary and understanding of the world around them. Through listening to music, exploring stories, engaging in imaginative role play and responding to different forms of art, children begin to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas with increasing confidence and individuality.
Children are encouraged to revisit and build upon previous creative experiences, helping them to develop deeper levels of thinking, curiosity and appreciation for the arts. Repeated opportunities to explore colour, shape, texture, sound and movement support children in developing their ability to interpret, respond to and appreciate what they see, hear and experience.
Imaginative and collaborative play also supports children’s social and emotional development, enabling them to communicate with others, share ideas, solve problems and develop confidence in expressing themselves creatively. Through these experiences, children develop a lifelong enjoyment of creativity, exploration and self-expression.
