The Curriculum

Our Reception curriculum follows the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework, which recognises that children learn best through meaningful play, exploration, and active engagement. The curriculum is designed to nurture confident, curious, and independent learners through the following key characteristics of effective learning:

  • Play and Exploration – children investigate, discover, and confidently “have a go” in a safe and stimulating environment.
  • Active Learning – children are encouraged to concentrate, persevere through challenges, and take pride in their achievements.
  • Creating and Thinking Critically – children are supported in developing their own ideas, making connections in their learning, and finding creative ways to solve problems.

The EYFS Framework is made up of Seven Areas of Learning and Development, including Three Prime Areas and Four Specific Areas. Through these areas, children develop essential skills, build knowledge, and learn how to apply their understanding in a range of contexts.

In Reception, children learn through a balance of exploration, purposeful play, and carefully guided activities, both indoors and outdoors, within our spacious and well-resourced learning environment. We place a strong emphasis on the three prime areas of learning, which provide the foundation for all future development and learning.
