Play Leaders

Playground Leaders

At our school, we want every child to feel happy, safe and included at playtime. Our Playground Leaders help us to live out our mission:

“What God has created, we nurture and celebrate in His love.”

Playground Leaders are pupils who choose to serve others by supporting their friends, welcoming those who feel alone and helping everyone enjoy their time in the playground.

Children volunteer for this special responsibility at the beginning of the year. Those selected receive training to help them understand how to care for others, encourage positive play and respond to small problems.

The leaders meet every half term with staff to review games and activities, revisit expectations and practise ways to resolve difficulties kindly and fairly. We are proud of the maturity, compassion and sense of excellence they bring to this role.

What do Playground Leaders do?

Playground Leaders:

  • help children to make new friends
  • make everyone feel welcome and valued
  • notice when someone is lonely and help them join in
  • support others to work through problems
  • listen carefully and remain fair
  • comfort children who are hurt or upset
  • help to look for lost belongings
  • share and teach new games suggested by pupils
  • seek help from a lunchtime supervisor if they are unsure what to do

Through their service, our Playground Leaders show care, responsibility and respect, nurturing the gifts God has given each member of our school family.
