Sports Premium Funding at St Philip’s
At St Philip’s, our mission is central to everything we do:
“What God has created, we nurture and celebrate in His love.”
This guides our approach to physical education, ensuring every child is valued, supported, and encouraged to flourish.
Our Intent
We aim to provide a high-quality, ambitious and inclusive PE curriculum that enables all pupils—including those with SEND and those who may be less confident—to develop physical literacy, improve fitness, and enjoy active, healthy lifestyles. Our curriculum is designed to build knowledge and skills progressively so pupils gain competence, confidence, and motivation to take part in sport throughout their lives.
We are committed to ensuring that PE contributes positively to pupils’ personal development, including teamwork, resilience, wellbeing, and character formation, reflecting our Christian distinctiveness.
Our Implementation
We deliver a broad and well-sequenced PE curriculum, supported this year by the Get Set 4 PE scheme, ensuring consistency, progression, and high-quality planning across all year groups. Lessons are designed to be engaging, enjoyable, and accessible to all pupils.
Sports Premium funding is used strategically to:
Increase participation among all pupils, especially those who have previously been less active.
Strengthen teaching expertise, ensuring staff have the confidence and subject knowledge to deliver high-quality PE.
Expand extracurricular opportunities, offering a diverse range of clubs and activities both within school and in partnership with the community.
Improve equipment and resources, enabling safe and effective learning.
Enhance competitive opportunities, encouraging teamwork, fairness, and sporting values.
Safeguarding and wellbeing are built into all our provision to ensure pupils feel safe, supported, and encouraged to take part.
Our Impact
Through the Sports Premium, we aim to ensure that pupils:
Are increasingly active and understand the importance of physical health and wellbeing.
Develop competence in a broad range of physical activities and sports.
Build character, resilience, and confidence, enabling them to contribute positively to school life and beyond.
Enjoy sport and develop healthy habits that will continue into adulthood.
Benefit from sustained improvements in PE teaching and resources that will remain long after the funding ends.
We continually monitor participation, progress, and pupil voice to ensure our provision meets the needs of all children and leads to long-lasting improvement.
National Sports Premium Objectives
The Primary PE and Sport Premium aims to ensure all pupils leave primary school physically literate and equipped with the knowledge, skills and motivation required for lifelong participation in sport and physical activity. Schools are required to demonstrate sustainable improvements against five key indicators:
Increased engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
Raised profile of PE and sport as a driver of whole-school improvement.
Improved confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
A broader experience of a wide range of sports and activities offered to pupils.
Increased participation in competitive sport.
